Utilitarianism, by John Stuart Mill Essay - 2012 Words

In John Stuart Mill’s work Utilitarianism, Mill is trying to provide proof for his moral theory utilitarianism and disprove all the objections against it. Mill defines utilitarianism as a theory based on the principle that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness (Ch. II, page 7). He calls this the â€Å"greatest happiness principle. Mill says, â€Å"No reason can be given why the general happiness is desirable, except the fact that each person desires his own happiness, so far as he thinks it is attainable. But this is a fact; so we have not only all the proof that could be possibly demanded, that happiness is a good; that each person’s happiness is a good to that†¦show more content†¦Mill disproves this criticism by explaining that human pleasures are superior to animalistic ones. He believes once people are knowledgeable of these higher faculties that they possess, they will never be happy if they are left uncultivated. Therefore happiness is a sign that we are exercising our higher faculties as human beings. While defending his theory, Mill goes into differentiate pleasures between quality and quantity; this suggesting that some pleasure are more valuable than others. According to Mill higher quality pleasures are of intellect and moral feeling, while lower quality pleasures are of sense. He explains that when making a moral judgment on an action, utilitarianism takes into account not just the quantity, but also the quality of the pleasures resulting from it. He attributes this to human dignity, which is necessary when discussing the topic of morality and credibility of his beliefs. This discussion of pleasures leads Mill to another criticism that utilitarianism has developed because of contentment not happiness. His understanding and argument for this is people who use their higher faculties are less content because they know all of the limitations in the world. He says this is in a clear example when he writes, â€Å"†¦better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. Adversaries of capital punishment point to the Marshalls and the Millgards, while proponents point to the Dahmers and Gacys. Society must be kept safe from the monstrous barbaric acts of these individuals and other killers, by taking away their lives to function and perform in our society. At the same time, we must insure that innocent people such as Marshall and Millgard are never convicted or sentenced to death for a crime that they did not commit. In order for capital punishment to work as a deterrence, certain events must be present in the criminal's mind prior to committing the offence. But individuals who commit any types of crime ranging from auto theft to 1st-Degree Murder, never take into account the consequences of their actions. Deterrence to crime, is rooted in the individuals themselves. Every human has a personal set of conduct. How much they will and will not tolerate. How far they will and will not go. This personal set of conduct can be made or be broken by friends, influences, family, home, life, etc. An individual who is never taught some sort of restraint as a child, will probably never understand any limit as to what they can do, until they have learned it themselves. 7 Terms with the Root -Vore 7 Terms with the Root â€Å"-Vore† 7 Terms with the Root â€Å"-Vore† By Mark Nichol Are you a locavore? Probably not it’s still a fringe movement but you should know what it means, even if you do not consider yourself a member of the class. A discussion of locavore and six related words follows: 1. Locavore The term was coined in 2005 by a group of San Franciscans who launched the website Locavore.com to spread the word about the conservationist concept of striving to restrict one’s diet to foods and ingredients produced locally. (Some locavores quantify the range as anywhere within a one-hundred-mile radius, but most are not exact in their limits.) Locavore is based on other words in which the -vore root appears (the root word is from the Latin term vorare, meaning â€Å"to devour†): 2. Carnivore A carnivore is a person or animal (or a plant) that eats meat; the prefix is from the Latin word for â€Å"flesh.† Other words sharing the root are carnal, meaning â€Å"of the flesh† and connoting sexual matters, and carnage, which comes from the Latin word carnaticum, meaning â€Å"tribute of flesh† and referring originally to the bodies of slain animals or people but now usually referring to slaughter in general. Insectivore This self-explanatory term (insect is from the Latin term insecare, â€Å"to cut into,† and is related to incisive, scissors, and the like) is nearly synonymous with entomophage (from the Latin elements ento-, meaning â€Å"insect,† and -phage, meaning â€Å"eating†), though the latter term primarily refers to human practitioners. 5. Omnivore An omnivore is something that eats both meat and plants (and often fish but not necessarily insects); omni- seen also in omniscient and omnipresent means â€Å"all.† 6. Piscivore A piscivore, also called an ichthyophage (ichthy means â€Å"fish†), eats fish, though, like most other groups classified here, the term refers to the primary type of diet and does not imply exclusivity. 7. John declares that if he were to get a son, he would have the same responsibility. Tissue that does not get a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged.This is what causes the problems of sickle cell disease.As to this day there is really no cure for sickle cell disease.Red blood cells take oxygen from the air we breathe into our lungs to all parts of the body. Oxygen is carried in red blood cells by a substance called hemoglobin(Hemoglobin – is the main substance of the red blood cell. It helps red blood cells carry oxygen from the air in our lungs to all parts of the body). Normal red blood cells contain hemoglobin A. Hemoglobin S and hemoglobin C are abnormal types of hemoglobin.Oxygen is carried in red blood cells by a substance called hemoglobin.The main hemoglobin in normal red blood cells is hemoglobin A. Normal red blood cells are soft and round and can squeeze through tiny blood tubes (vessels). Normally, red blood cells live for about 120 days before new ones replace them.People with sickle cell conditions make a different form of hemoglobin A called hemoglobin S (S stands for sickle). Red blood cells containing mostly hemoglobin S do not live as long as normal red blood cells (normally about 16 days). They also become stiff, distorted in shape and have difficulty passing through the body's small blood vessels. When sickle-shaped cells block small blood vessels, less blood can get to that part of the body. Tissue that does not receive a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged. This is what causes the complications of sickle cell disease. There are several types of sickle cell disease. The most common are: Sickle Cell Anemia (SS), Sickle-Hemoglobin C Disease (SC)Sickle Beta-Plus Thalassemia and Sickle Beta-Zero Thalassemia. Sickle Cell trait (AS) is an inherited condition in which both hemoglobin A and S are made in the red blood cells, there are always more A than S. Time and Professionalism

What is professionalism? There are many different forms of professionalism depending on whose opinion of professionalism it is. I will go with my opinion of professionalism. For the thirty years of my life I must say, I have learned a lot about my experiences in life. I’ve learned from myself, I have learned from my friends, and I have learned from mere strangers. I have seen people succeed in their goals. I have seen people fail in their goals. Failing doesn’t mean that you can’t try again. I believe we learn from our mistakes or if you possibly can, learn from others before you commit the same mistake. Well, I have come to a great conclusion. Professionalism plays a major, a very important role in succeeding in life despite of what goal you are trying to reach. To become a doctor there comes a need for a great amount of professionalism. To become a stockbroker, there is a need for people with nothing but a great mind and professionalism. Even to become a professional football player, despite of the great skills you may have to catch a 60 yard pass for a touchdown, there is still a great amount of professionalism expected from that professional wide receiver. Professionalism comes in many different aspects. The first most important aspect of being professional is the mere first image that you present yourself with. I say professionalism starts with your dress code and hygiene. The first detail you will put out to a person meeting you the first thing is that of how you are dressed. You should be dressed up for the occasion you are presenting yourself for. In an interview for example, a man should be dressed with a dark suit with a plain matching tie and decent shoes, also with his hair groomed. The second most important aspect of being professional is how you present yourself! Yes, you may be well groomed, with a perfect elegant suit but, if you do not have the perfect elegant professional attitude, the attire well, does not mean a thing. Professionalism plays a part in every characteristic of any person. So that being said, when being professional make sure you have the proper aura present. Make sure when you meet that important person that will decide your fate that you have a welcoming smile on your face. Make sure you present enough eye contact that you seem very much interested in what that person is trying to offer you and at the same time, not too much eye contact that it may come across to the other person that you are being maybe too cocky. Greet that person with a firm but not too firm handshake. Make sure that interviewer knows that you are comfortable and also make him or her feel just as comfortable. That is a big plus. Although I emphasized that the first impression you make to anyone will determine to the other person on what level your professionalism is to them. Do not forget that consistency is key to life. Yes, your first impression is big and will have a great impact on anyone. Anyone can have a great impression for one day. Can you do it on a daily basis? Can you maintain your characteristics of professionalism? Can you leave a great impression on people every day? This leads me to my third most important aspect of professionalism. Consistency! Although I put it at third most important does not mean that it is not as important as the first two. They play a role together as one. Consistency is big on every part of your personality, characteristic, and statistically. Are you prepared to be dressed professional at all times despite of whatever affair you may have? Are you willing to dress to the occasion? Are you prepared to have a great attitude and personality at all times, despite of what personal issues you may have? Can you keep that smile on your face and a positive attitude? Are you able to keep your good grades at all times? Are you able to have a 100% attendance? Can you show me 100% effort every day? Yes you have to have a great attitude and be dressed accordingly at all times but, can you do this 99. 9 percent of the time. This is what people look for in a professional. Someone they can rely on. There is one thing people tend to forget when talking about professionalism. Everyone has free personal time to enjoy their lively hood. There is no objecting to that. But do not forget that although you are on your own free personal time that there is not anyone watching you. As a famous musician once said, â€Å"the streets is watching†. There are always eyes on you if you are in a public place. You cannot everyday go to work and display a personality of professionalism, then go out to a club and be the worst most obnoxious person ever. Well you can. But I bet you didn’t see your assistant manager on the other side of that club watching you with astonishment! That one mistake may have cost you your whole chance of becoming the next person to being promoted in that company. That is why I say consistency is key. You cannot be professional in places where you think may only matter. Once you take a career that involves you being professional, you must always display that same amount of professionalism at ll times. When you are at work, when you’re out at the park, when you’re at the movies, at a bar, anywhere you go you must be professional at all times. This does not mean you cannot have fun. You can have fun and be professional. Just as long as you present yourself in a respectable fashion. I personally will display all these aspects to my experiences in m y future for my externship. I have learned a lot about myself and my experiences. I must admit. Most times I have not lived in a professional manner. I am now seeing things in different light. I am seeking the respect of a different group of people than in my past. I know that with all being said above. Without me living up to my knowledge and words I cannot succeed in my field of study so now it comes to that point that I will have to have a great output in my personality, my dress code, and I have to be consistent at all times. I have not been perfect, and I know no one is but I can only try! So after this report I will sit back and evaluate my little theory in professionalism and understand. I can’t only talk about it. It is a plan that is prone to adjustments and improvements with the aim of providing the most accommodative learning environment for my students. For effective learning to take place, I believe that a combination of factors is necessary and these include engaging curriculums, a safe environment and a good rapport between the teacher and the students, which can effectively eliminate behavioral problems. Classroom management philosophy In my curriculum, I am committed to providing an all-rounded approach to teaching in order to achieve effective learning for my students. My main aim is to achieve both academic success and life teachings to my students, which will ensure that they have the discipline to interact with others inside as well as outside the classroom. Attending to the needs of my students is of top priority hence I intend to adapt an engaging approach to teaching where there will be incorporation of interactive learning. In this, I will ensure that I attend to students’s needs according to their capabilities. I will integrate discussions and interactive sessions to generate interest and grow the student’s interactive skills. This will also aid the students to learn from each other. Making every student feel that they play a part in the classroom learning process will build on their esteem hence encouraging them to improve on their academics as well as their social skills. I will use a patient and calm approach towards disruptive behavior; however, I will be firm in my instructions to prevent re-occurrence of such behavior. I will ensure that I am not over-bearing but will follow up on the students’ activities outside the classroom hence being a guide to the students and providing an understanding attitude, which will ensure that the students trust me and are open during classroom interactions. I will base my management plan on these philosophies. Classroom rules Behavioral goals Setting of behavioral goals will enable the achievement of classroom discipline and presence of a more conducive learning environment. With a classroom consisting of a number of students, each with his or her personality, a common ground will be necessary to ensure that there is controlled environment. This will require certain measures to be implemented where these measures should be realistic and attainable putting into consideration the backgrounds of the students and their age bracket. Some of the measures I will implement include encouraging attentiveness during class sessions, participation in class discussions, respectful attitudes towards the teacher and the fellow students, responsiveness towards learning and good conduct inside and outside the classroom. These will result in uninterrupted learning sessions and responsiveness of the students to the teaching procedures adapted in the classroom resulting in effective learning for the students. Actions aiming at attainment of behavioral goals Some of the actions I will take to encourage good behavior in class will include specifying the kind of behavior I expect of the students hence giving the students a guideline of good classroom behavior that they will be expected to observe. I will give the students an opportunity to state the kind of attitude they expect from me and each other and involve them in setting classroom rules to ensure that they feel as part of the creators of the rules, making implementation easier as the rules will include what they themselves want. I will specify the measures that will be taken on failure to follow the specified behavior and explain to the students the reason for expecting the kind of behavior from them, explaining the benefit of such conduct to them. I explain to them of how they will gain from following the expected conduct. Yet another measure I will take will be rewarding good behavior, which will encourage the students to observe good behavior. Classroom rules and conditions In setting classroom rules, I will put into consideration that the students are of different backgrounds with different cultures hence the rules will be made to accommodate each individual without discrimination. This is in line with the explanation by Sheets and Gay (1996) where the teacher is expected to respect the students’ backgrounds and use an approach that is conducive to the students’ uniqueness. However, the rules in my class will be based around respect as where there is respect cooperation will be achieved. Mutual respect will result in obedience and understanding hence communication in class will be possible, with the students more inclined to pay attention where they feel that their opinions are valued are considered. I will set conditions that will ensure that there is maximization of interactive work where there will be occasional group work and class meetings to discuss the progress of the students in relation to the set rules. Classroom procedures Classroom arrangement I will ensure that the classroom arrangement allows interaction and easy movement hence ensuring that I am able to monitor the students’ activities. This will allow me to get close to each student hence giving personalized attention to each student, which I believe will have a greater impact in the learning process, as each individual will feel like part of the process. The seating arrangement will also be in a way that makes classroom discussions easier without wasting much time on re-arranging the class. I will also ensure that there are bright colors making use of visual learning materials, which will enhance learning as well as making learning interesting. I will ensure that there are additional learning materials located in an easily accessible position in the classroom such as dictionaries, maps and computers for group-based research activities. I will allow the students to personalize the classroom by coming up with creative learning materials that will be hang on part of the walls in an orderly manner. Classroom routines One of the classroom routines that I find to be of greatest value that I will incorporate in my teaching is group discussions and classroom interactions. One of the reasons why I find this routine important is that it builds the students in all areas. To begin with, it builds the student’s interactive skills, as they are able to learn to listen to other people’s opinions and respect other people’s views. Secondly, it enables the student to have the confidence to air their views and share with others their opinions on a certain topic. The other reason that group interactions is an important routine is that it creates discipline in a student as they learn how to reply to other people’s opinions in a respectful manner that is not rude or does not degrade the other individual. Another classroom routine that I will incorporate in my teaching is use activities that will be imaginative and creative to create interest and explore other talents that the students may possess. This will ensure the students realize their full potential and help them to have control of their learning as they will realize that they are all gifted in different ways giving them the drive to find out what more they can actually do or learn what other skills they possess (Anderman and Midgley, 1998). Encouraging students All students have rights to be safe, to be respected and to learn without uncalled for interruption. In my teaching, I will make these rights known to the students and encourage them to make their needs known without fear. Hence, by offering this free environment the students will feel encouraged to express themselves as long as they do so in a respectful manner. I also believe that students should be guided, but should also be allowed to make some decisions on their own. It is in this way that they learn to be responsible hence; I will encourage the students to make wise decisions that will help them in tackling situations without me having to interfere. I would do this by letting the student make a connection between an action he takes and the outcome of the action hence leaving her or him to take action according to the outcome s/he finds favorable. Positive behavioral reinforcement In order to harness a sense of good behavior, I will put more focus on good behavior and the congratulating it. I will ensure I emphasize on the benefits of good behavior and always talk on the positive. I will acknowledge good behavior no matter the magnitude of it as this will show the student that they are on the right path encouraging them to continue with the behavior. This will eventually become routine and they will be drawn to doing what is right as positive feedback encourages them to feel acknowledged for their actions (Dreikurs, 1982). I will be firm but gentle in reprimanding a negative behavior. Julius Tamara runs a jewelry store which is well known through the city in one of the streets that is full of competitors, Jl. Pasir Koja. And this is about how normal he was and he is. Born in the City of Flowers or Bandung, the third largest city in Indonesia. Julius grew up in not so small family, he had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Being in a moderate family, he seems to enjoy his childhood where he rode bicycle with his friends, playing with sticks, stones and whatever they have at that time. Its really different from these modern times, there was no television, let alone computer. Radio is likely to be the only electronic based media they have. One funny thing is he seems to broke it a couple of times. Julius is a bad tempered person, even as a child. He loves to angry very much, this is maybe because he was always being accused of breaking things when he didnt, so it is some kind of inner defensive mechanism. Say one thing that might offended him, you wont get it away just like that. Apart of being a bad tempered person, he was actually just a normal child. Julius laughed when he said he was afraid of dark, ghost and supernatural things. He also wanted to be like what other child wanted to be like doctors, astronauts, soldiers, and many more, even though he never achieved one of those and become something else. While other families find their children to be troublesome when they are in their teens, Julius is an exception, losing his older brother at the age of 15 is not one simple thing, its a trivial matter to a grown up teens but he never found himself troublesome to others except with the bullies. He was talking like a grown up when he was in his teens and he never asked question like why he was born like many other teenagers would probably do. He said that his friends were just finding themselves as they are in their development age. Strange thing, he doesnt seem to include himself in it. Despite of what other might say, growing up from a normal child, he was still a normal teenager, he hate bullies but he never afraid of one, he said that he got into trouble with the bullies once and have some childish fight, but he didnt hit even once, he just let them hit him as much as they like cause he knows that the if he fights back, hes just getting himself into more troubles and that will made him looked childish. Apart from the bully things, he also fell in love like other teens, he smiled when he said about this, but he never revealed the name. Like a normal teens, he used to hangout with his friends a lot. If someone asked about who is his best friend, he would probably answer his whole classmate. We love to do crazy things together, he said. They used to play a game, The rule is simple, after the break time when the teacher hasnt come to the class, we need to drag people from other class to our class and force them to stay in our class until the teacher chase him out and its a score Julius explained further. By the look of his, he really enjoys his adolescence very much, the way he explain things and more. Apart of that, growing up in a moderate family, losing a brother sure was a difficult thing for Julius, this is maybe the cause why he doesnt seem to like talking about his family as he likes talking about his friends. He always talked to the point and straight forward in a short sentence. Even though he said it was okay, but for a normal person, it wouldnt be okay to lose a brother. On the other hand, the loss of his brother sure was a hell of an experience for him. This life is cruel, he said. He knows it very well that he was still fortunate to live in such a family and in such a time, at least it was better than before 1945 which was the Japanese era. This might be another reason why he could develop such a personality in such a small age. One random fact, he never wanted to run away from house and its because he knows that theres no other place to go beside home, and what could he possibly do as a teenager anyway. Julius was old enough to see the incident in 30th September 1965. An attempted coup led by anti-communist party in Indonesia. This incident cause more than half million of people to die. It was one of the fearful times of all incidents in Indonesia. Not only that, Julius lives through the New Order era where all the Chinese people would need to hide in fear because of the anti-chinese laws made by the government. As other people would likely to feel, Julius hated the government very much. People live in fear, there is no place for Chinese people to stay in Indonesia, the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta was burned down by a mob. Several of the anti-chinese laws were to limit/restrict the Chinese culture like celebrating Chinese New Year and civil rights, including the adoption of Indonesian sounding names. This is the reason why Julius named himself as Julius which was not Julius before the New Order era. On the flipside, there were fewer corruptions than nowadays. Julius did finish his senior high, but he couldnt afford to continue his study to the university as he still has his brothers and sisters. Even if he could afford it that time, it would be impossible to get in a university because of the anti-chinese laws. Not going to university, no problem, he studied business by himself and doing some little business at the same time. This little business of his is actually a simple business trick, buying something at a lower price and sells it again at higher price to gain profit. After some time, he dares himself to open up a jewelry business which is quite a dangerous thing to do at that time. The place where he opened up the store is quite dangerous, there was an incident, a competitor of his was robbed and 3 people were shot. It was not far from his place, about 3 blocks away. The impact was so strong that he closed his business for a week. God really did his job to protect this man at that time. The robbers were actually targeting Julius sto re, but when the robbers asked a person who was selling meatball in front of his store about which one has more profit, he randomly answered the one that was 3 blocks away from Julius. Speaking of God, his family has a complicated belief. Julius and his wife are Buddhist, some of his siblings are Catholics and some other are Buddhist, and his oldest son and two daughter move to Protestant while the smallest moves to Catholics, this applies to his siblings son and daughter also which is very complicated. This is the reason why he doesnt like to talk about religious stuff very much. Despite of having different beliefs, they actually are a very harmonic family. They always support each other when they are in need. Julius loves to travel to China more than any other place. This was not because he is a Chinese. This is because that China is really a great place to go. The scenery is very beautiful there, its like youre in a fairy tale, he explains. Having two sons and two daughters, Julius still has something that troubles him. Apparently, his sons and daughters are not interested in this jewelry business of his. The oldest son is taking international law, while the daughters plan to make their own business. Hoping for the smallest, but it seems he is interested in IT. It would be such a loss if this business died he sighed.

Urban and the Council of Clermont :: European Europe History

Urban and the Council of Clermont There are many accounts of that day in November, 1095. Some were written by monks, others by bishops, and even a few by warriors themselves. Historians are constantly asking, "What exactly did Pope Urban II say at the council of Clermont to persuade Christians to set forth on such a difficult venture as the Crusades?" One man, an early 12th century cleric named Fulcher of Chartres wrote perhaps the best historical chronicle of the events at Clermont and the speech of Urban II. Fulcher begins his account with a prologue that states how blessed the journeymen of the Crusades were to take up such a conquest. He follows this by speaking on the Council of Clermont. Fulcher describes Pope Urban II and what he heard was happening to the Christians in the east. What comes next in Flucher's writing is a long speech, allegedly quoted from Urban II himself. In the speech, Urban first lectures his fellow clergymen regarding problems in the church, saying that they should "set [themselves] right before [they] do others"1 Fulcher, 51. Urban II next, as according to Fulcher, declares the doctrine of the church and re-instates the idea of the "Truce"2 McGinty, 52. He also discussed various crimes for which the criminal would be excommunicated from the Church. In Fulcher's third section, Urban speaks of the "evils" in the east. He says, "there is work to do, you must help your brothers living in the Orient, who need your aid for which they have cried out many times"3 Fulcher, 52. He gives word that these "brothers" (Christians) are being threatened by the Turks who must be pushed back to Persia. Urban will grant remission of sins for their services. In closing, Fulcher tells how Urban II presses on to say, " Let no delay postpone the journey"4 Fulcher, 53. Fulcher of Chartres' account of what happened at the Council of Clermont is a great piece, full of detail. Fulcher obviously held Pope Urban II in high regard. Throughout his chronicle, he douses him with compliments saying that he is " a man distinguished in life and character."5 Fulcher, 49. It might not seem like much now to put the Church's interests before all others; however, in the Middle Ages people were extremely religious. The better Christian one was, the better man he was. Urban II speaks to his clergy about the problems in the Church and as Fulcher tells the story he seems he seems rightly bestowed with the compliments Fulcher gives him.

We will have two dogs, Jackson and Parker. C. What do you want your life look like in 5 years? -In 5 years I will be in college. Hopefully University of Riverside after I get my general education done at Chaffey. I will also be moved in and engaged to Jason Zeigler. That will be the biggest turning point of my life in my own personal opinion mainly because I will be focusing on my major and my career, which will in turn determine the rest of my life. Either successful or a failure. D. What are you doing now that will affect the rest of your life? -Things that I am doing now that will affect the rest of my life is graduating high school, going to college, and working and becoming independent. Graduating is a huge step in life. It’s the start of the rest of our lives. There’s no more messing around anymore. We are growing up and now we must be independent and do things on our own. Going to college is another big step in what is going to affect the rest of my life. There is no more free education. Especially when your parents are making you pay for it by yourself like I am. At least I have a very good, well-paying job, In N Out. In N Out has really taught me how to be responsible with my money. It has made me realize how fast your money can disappear. It has also broken me out of my shell. In N Out has taught me how to deal with angry customers and how to talk to anyone. These are some very important traits I feel that I will need for the rest of my life. Step 2: Evaluate your Current Job A. What are the tasks that you are performing in your current job that will transfer to future jobs and your career? * The tasks that I am performing in my current job that will help me transfer to future jobs and my career is dealing with agitated people, working at a fast pace, being able to talk to anyone, and being able to do what people tell me quickly and efficiently. Dealing with angry and/or agitated customers is probably the hardest part of the job. Not only is it awkward, but it is also very agitating for you. I normally want to just scream in their face that it’s not my fault but I always keep my cool. Working at a fast pace without stressing is also a very good skill to have. You have to be able to work very fast at In N Out. We are constantly busy and having to please hundreds of customers a day. B. What are the possibilities for advancement at this current job, and what are the skills you could still learn at this job? * In N Out runs off of a level system. A level 1 cleans the dining room. A level 2 takes orders and can work the back pay window. A level 3 can take orders outside with something we call a hand held, and can also hand out food for the drive through. A level 4 works fries. A level 5 dresses, puts the condiments, on the burger. A level 6 actually cooks the burgers. Lastly, a level 7 is a manager’s assistant. They help run the shift when the manager isn’t around. Then after all those are the managers. Each separate store has 4 different mangers. They move up as well. They all start out as 4th managers and then move up to a 1st manager, which is a â€Å"store manager†. After that they can move up to district managers and then a regional manager. I am currently a level 3 but I am hopefully getting my level 4 soon. I’ve been working and learning fries. In N Out is definitely my fall back if the ultrasound technician fails. Step 3: Interests A. What do you like to do? * I love to hang out with friends, my boyfriend, go out to eat, and sleep. I can hang out with my friend and Jason for days. Probably like every other teenager but that’s when I have the most fun. Going out to eat is my favorite thing to do. I don’t really care if it’s bad for you. I love food. Sleeping is what I do in my free time. I am constantly tired so I love sleep when I actually have the time to do so. B. What is the best experience you have ever had? The best experience I’ve ever had was probably my senior prom. Basically it was the best night of my life. It was amazing. From getting ready, to pictures, to dinner, to the bus, to the dance, to the bus again, and then Kyle Wades spa. I got to get ready with my best friends and my boyfriend’s mom paid for me to get my makeup done. I love that woman. The pictures were great with m y boyfriend and best friends. We got some really cute ones. Dinner was delicious at chilis. The bus was the best part in addition to the actual dance. We had a stripper pole and all the guys got on it. This is the irst dance I’ve been to that the teachers didn’t care how we danced. By the time we got off the dance floor everyone was dripping sweat. My legs were sore for 3 days after. After that we hopped back on the bus, made a quick stop to In N Out and then chilled in Kyle’s spa. Jason and I had to sleep in my truck that night but we woke up early and went to Denny’s for breakfast. C. What makes you the happiest? * My boyfriend and friends are definitely my top priority at this point. They have made me who I am today. D. What makes you feel most satisfied? * Making everyone around me happy and accomplishing a new goal. E. When have you felt the most rewarded? * When I reached my level 3 and got my raise because I earned it all on my own with no one else’s help. Step 4: Aptitudes A. What are you good at? * I am very good at following orders. When someone tells me to do something I will get it done right away and get it done very well. B. 1. My top 3 interest groups did not appear at all. Ultrasound technician, Crime Scene investigator, or working in advertisement. They all seem like jobs you can’t get bored of.
